According to recent report of UNICEF one out of seven between age of 15-24 are suffering from mental disorder. India performs really bad when it comes to mental health. Understanding youth bulge of Indian population , government should come with proper plan to mitigate negative side of mental health, in order to harness the maximum potential of youth.
Why mental health is so important for students?
Students life is really important, fun but confusing part of life as well. Academic, peer pressure and biological changes makes even more vulnerable. Hence, you can be at the peak of your productivity only when you are mentally fit. Therefore, Mental health is as essential as physical health. And it’s part of life.
Ways you can take care of your mental health
VALUE YOURSELF :- Treat yourself with kindness and respect. Don’t keep criticizing yourself. Do take out time for your hobbies and appreciate yourself.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY:- Taking care of your body is extremely important, it will make you feel confident and composed which will improve your mental health. Do eat nutritious food, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.
Set Realistic Goal :- Plan out your goals which you want to achieve academically or personally. Break it in chunk. Remind yourself the step you need to take in order to realize your goal. Dream big at the same time be realistic and don’t over schedule. Take small steps; you will be really pleased and satisfied with your work.
Learn how to deal with your stress:- stress considered as important part of life until it is not disrupting your schedule or normal life. Practice good coping skill. Try to find out the origin of stress; whether it is external or internal. discuss with yourself, and try to get through it.
Take time for yourself :- We often fail to understand ourselves in busy schedule or don’t give importance to it, but spending time with ourselves is extremely important, for better mental health and in order to understand our though process. This technique will bring more trust and confidence.
Break the monotony:- In order to break monotonous or machinery life, you should take break and spend your time doing creative things such as writing, painting, singing, listening to music.
Get help when you need it:- Seeking help is a sign of strength not a weakness. Do open yourself to others. It is important to remember that effective treatment and care do help.
“Today we need to talk about it. When you starts to talking, it will give somebody courage to speak about it. Let’s come together and eliminate this stigma around mental health and accept ourselves the way we are.”
